I’ve seen tight knit organizations knit so tightly they made spandex swatches look like trapeze artist nets. Some of the tightest organizations I’ve seen are howling warrior Vikings (in a past life, obviously) bent on dominating the world and collecting the most beautiful women on ice-land. Migrating birds swim through the air as if one single entity communicating through some unseen psychic neural net. Ninjas. Ninjas are tight too. But by far, the tightest organization I’ve ever seen aren’t even an organization. In fact, they take turns being chairmen(women). It’s moms. 

Mom’s are the tighest knit organization I’ve ever seen. 

Sitting at a coffee shop writing this post, at this precise moment, there is a mom to my 2 o’clock feeding her todler, rocking her infant, talking on her iphone, and IMing on her iPad. 

With an expression of laser focused determination she says, “I know. I’m DMing Jenny right now,”

I can’t tell if that’s steam coming from her Americano or smoke from her iPad 3.

It’s either something about a gubernatorial racial diversification or diaper rash. I think it’s about diaper rash. Because she is incensed (I would be too, if I had a baby. A wife would help. Actually, right about now, I’d settle for a girlfriend). And with good reason. She has in her care, the two most important people in history — her babies.

She and her network of fellow mommies can make your company, product, or service a massive success or make you have to move to a foreign country where you’ll have to learn another language altogether. Before your product even sees first light in a retail store window display, she can make a line form around the block for it or settle 3 inches of dust on it — and all within seconds.

Actually, there is one group of people who are even more tight knit, awesome, and fearsome; people to wine, dine, cater to, and grovel at… moms who blog.

Win Over the Popular Kids and You’ve Got The Whole Market Niche

That not being the case, I’ve built over 100 apps in my 20′s and the only ones that made it big were the ones where I ALREADY had access to the roads. These roads lead to users. And you app needs these roads for you to get yourself out in front of the users.

So if you’re building a GPS location based app, you’ve got to have preexisting access to the people who dominate that industry. Get THEM to use your app and you’re revving at 6,000 rpms at 120 miles per hour.
